The Replete Residence is a demonstration home which showcases many diverse technologies. It is located in the Kansas City Metro area.

There are other demonstration homes built in the region, but most of them are either retrofits of older homes or new homes incorporating a new idea or feature. The Replete Residence is one of the first to offer many diverse technologies in one package. Some of these technologies are: passive and active solar heating, photovoltaic solar electricity, home networking computer technologies, non-toxic building materials, state-of-the-art appliances, low voltage circuitry, fiber optic network, rainwater collection system and many more.

The process of designing, evaluating and building the "Replete Residence" was similar (except probably more extensive) to other home builders and buyers trying to design an energy-efficient, non-toxic building within the reality of a budget. How these features and products actually operate under real usage conditions is of great interest to those thinking of plunking their hard-earned dollars down for the same. It is our hope that with this house we are able to distill the broad spectrum of information and related decisions into a useful guide to help save time and effort for others.

The "Replete Residence" began as an idea by Ken Riead in the early 1970s. He spent several decades becoming familiar with various technologies and worked with his wife, Sharla, to conduct many workshops & seminars on solar, energy conservation & environmental subjects.
